Targeted delivery of potential therapeutics to organs, and even cell types in an organ, of interest has been the subject of intense research for decades. Although not perfected, these research efforts are beginning to bear fruit resulting in novel therapeutics coming into clinical use. There are multiple competing methods of targeted delivery that are being developed. This special issue aims to bring cutting edge research in this arena to its readers.
Our goal is to provide comprehensive review articles, as well as original, unpublished, research to the forefront encompassing cell penetrating peptides, peptide nucleic acids, or antibody targeted delivery. Original or review articles high-lighting techniques for enhancing serum stabilities, endosomal escape solutions, study of associated immune reactions, or enhancing targeted delivery are welcomed. We would also consider studies comparing these delivery vectors to other modalities including though not limited to viral vectors, lipid nanoparticles, including liposomes. We are particularly interested in targeted drug delivery to the heart, vessels, brain, skeletal muscles, liver, lung, pancreas, and kidney.
