Effective School Leadership Enactment of GAI: A 5 C's Framework for Integration

As Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) continues to shape the future of education, effective leadership is essential for its successful integration in schools. This study explores the key leadership traits and practices necessary for school leaders to navigate and implement GAI initiatives. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 school principals across six Arab countries, all of whom have actively integrated GAI within their schools over the past two years.The findings led to the development of a comprehensive 5 C's framework: Catalysts for innovation, Curators of GAI technologies, Champions of its benefits, Cultivators of a culture of experimentation, and Connectors for fostering collaboration. This framework emphasizes the proactive and transformative role of school leaders in driving GAI integration. The implications drawn from these findings underscore that effective leadership in the AI era necessitates a fusion of technological acumen, a nuanced understanding of leadership dynamics, and the reliance on evidence-based strategies.
