Effects of Tobacco Use on Oral Health

The use of tobacco has been rapidly increasing across the globe. With an increase in its consumption globally, diseases induced and associated with tobacco use are also on the rise. Of major concern are diseases of the oral and para-oral regions. Considering the gravity of the tobacco epidemic, an extensive understanding of its characteristics, properties, pathology and policies to curtail its use are in need. Progress in this direction, calls for strong scientific evidence backed by elaborate research on these topics.

The rampant use of tobacco products and the rise in pre-malignant and malignant pathologies of the oral cavity, calls for newer approaches to decipher the relation between tobacco and these pathologies. Studies that assess the nature, characteristics and the epidemiology of tobacco related diseases can not only help in addressing the knowledge gap in tobacco related diseases but also help to resolve the harm induced by these products.

This Research Topic seeks high quality articles related to the properties of these products, their effects on oral and para-oral structures, and the social, economic and public health interrelations that influence their use. The Topic Editors welcome manuscripts that not only extend beyond traditional concepts but also those which challenge and add value to the existing base of knowledge of this topic.
