About this Research Topic

Manuscript Submission Deadline 20 December 2023

This Research Topic is part of a series with: Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Surgery (RALS) in Pediatric Urology, Volume I.

Robotic-assisted surgery in pediatric urology is rapidly evolving and increasingly complex procedures are being undertaken. Its technology has facilitated laparoscopic surgery using the advantages of the minimally invasive approach but avoiding the restrictions of laparoscopic surgery. Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Surgery (RALS) has been reported in pediatric urology in a wide range of procedures, particularly involving kidneys, ureters, and bladder reconstructive procedures. In this Research Topic, we review the current indications and results of robotics in the management of pediatric pathology. Current controversial topics center around its cost and its comparative effectiveness with conventional laparoscopy and open surgery.

The aim of this Research Topic is to review the current role of RALS in pediatric urology and to better establish the benefits of RALS in pediatric urology.

Keywords: robotic, laparoscopic, pyeloplasty, heminephrectomy, uretero-uretero anastomosis, children, pediatric, urology

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
