Background

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), as serious chronic conditions with a prevalence of 10–15% in children and adolescents, impact the cognitive, behavioral, and social development of the population suffering from the diseases. The high level of heterogeneity and overlap in NDDs is posing unique challenges to designing tailored assessment and intervention approaches. Empirical studies show that an early diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders allows personalized and intensive treatment, leading to a better prognosis. Despite the substantial progress that has been achieved in the related field, there are still questions that remain unaddressed.

This Research Topic aims to enhance the assessment and intervention process for children and adolescents affected by specific neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and intellectual disabilities. Furthermore, we strive to deepen the discussions regarding the innovative and technological tools that can be applied to the assessment and intervention of such diseases.

More specifically, we expect the contribution to include but not be limited to the following potential areas of focus and scope:

1. Developmental psychopathology research for expanding the current evidence base on early intervention;

2. Research for individualized intervention plans that address the unique strengths, needs, and preferences of each child and adolescent with a neurodevelopmental condition;

3. Risk and resilience factors for understanding NDDs experiences;

4. Innovative and technological tools for NDDs assessment and intervention

All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by experts in the field. We welcome Original Research, Review articles, Clinical Trials, Systematic Reviews, and Meta-Analyses, particularly longitudinal studies with at-risk and clinical groups.
