About this Research Topic

Background

Inclusion for children and adolescents with developmental disorders represents a significant global challenge, transcending mere educational access to encompass various life domains. This area of interest has witnessed increasing contributions from diverse knowledge fields, enhancing our comprehension of the inclusive journey these individuals undergo. Although Europe and North America have produced and disseminated numerous inclusive initiatives, there remains a critical gap in understanding the array of experiences and solutions from lesser-represented regions.

This Research Topic aims to showcase the variety of inclusion strategies employed globally, emphasizing innovations from countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania. We seek to explore how different cultural, economic, and social contexts influence the effectiveness and adaptability of inclusion methods, particularly in regions facing resource scarcities or adverse conditions.

To gather further insights within these diverse contexts, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Family dynamics and support systems in inclusive settings.
• Educational approaches and school-based practices for inclusive education.
• Social inclusion and community integration strategies.
• Professional and vocational involvement of youth with developmental disorders.
• Cultural influences on inclusion policies and practices.

We invite submissions of experience reports and empirical studies that highlight the implementation and outcomes of inclusion practices. Accepted formats include qualitative (e.g., action-research, case studies) and quantitative research, as well as theoretical discussions that offer innovative insights. Contributions from interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary perspectives are particularly valued, including those from the fields of education, psychology, social sciences, and public policy, which reflect the complexity of challenges and solutions in diverse settings.
