Meningiomas, the most common primary intracranial tumors in adults, are typically benign and slow-growing. Total surgical resection is considered the gold standard treatment, however, this is not always feasible. For meningiomas that progress or recur despite surgical resection, the additional treatment options may be limited and challenging. Recent advances in neuroimaging, artificial intelligence and emerging biomarkers promise an improvement in diagnostic and treatment strategies. Systemic treatments, including chemotherapy, somatostatin analogues, anti-hormone therapy, anti-angiogenic agents, as well as immunotherapy, have been under investigation. Despite intensive research, no standard treatment options are yet sufficiently effective for these challenging tumors, often resulting in poor outcomes. These tumors show genetic, epigenetic and molecular alterations which may serve as predictive markers for systemic pharmacotherapies with targeted drugs or immunotherapy. The 2021 WHO CNS tumor classification introduced molecular grading, yet challenges remain in treatment and prognosis. The goal is to study the broad spectrum of novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for meningiomas, starting from genetics, molecular profiling, histopathology, novel imaging studies and artificial intelligence, up to combined systemic therapies, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, surgical resection techniques, radiosurgery and radiotherapy. In this Research Topic, we aim to provide a broad, detailed overview of the recent advancements in meningioma management, including novel and innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies regarding imaging modalities, molecular alterations, systemic therapies, targeted therapies, surgical techniques, and radiotherapy/surgery. This Research Topic welcomes all types of manuscripts supported by the journal, excluding case reports. Please note: Manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases, which are not accompanied by validation (independent clinical or patient cohort, or biological validation in vitro or in vivo, which are not based on public databases) are not suitable for publication in this journal
