In the straight line of the previous volume 'Case Reports in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition 2022', we are happy to announce the launch of a new volume. This is a rapidly evolving field from various angles; particularly, it is increasingly recognized that the understanding of the gut system can be extended to the splanchnic bed-brain axis. As researchers delve into the intricacies of the child's gut development, specific splanchnic disorders, and gut microbiota, the connections to brain function and overall health reveal themselves more deeply. Recent studies have shown significant interest in how gut and liver disorders impact nutrition, whether enteral or parenteral, during the crucial developmental stages of neonates, infants, children, and adolescents. Despite these advancements, clinical (medical or surgical) case reports that illuminate atypical or obscure scenarios are lacking, creating a knowledge gap that hinders practical application in patient care.
This Research Topic aims to spotlight case reports that shed light on unique or unexplained pediatric gastroenterological conditions. Through the presentation of clinical features and diagnoses using advanced methods, as well as detailing medical or surgical outcomes, this initiative seeks to enrich understanding and medical knowledge. To align with CARE guidelines, the focus will also be on differential diagnosis, clinical hazards, decision-making, and management of unexpected cases. By promoting these cases, we aspire to provide an educational tool that enhances healthcare practice and encourages the advancement of medical expertise in this broad, specialized field.
To gather further insights into these complex scenarios, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
• Pediatric gut development and maturation.
• Unusual, non-infectious or infectious gastrointestinal disorders related to medical, surgical and imaging cases.
• Splanchnic disorders and their systemic impacts.
• Gut microbiota and neurological interactions.
• Enteral and parenteral nutrition challenges.
• Clinical decision-making in atypical gastroenterological cases.
Additionally, submissions must be original, significantly contributing to the field, and specifically titled with “Case Report”
Keywords: case reports/series, gastro-hepatology, nutrition, gut- microbiota, Splanchnic Bed-Brain axis
Important note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
