Background

Pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics (PGx) sit at the forefront of personalized medicine, investigating how an individual's genetic makeup influences their response to medications. While the field has matured significantly, a substantial gap remains between the identification of genetic biomarkers and their routine application in clinical practice. This translational challenge is multifaceted, involving barriers in clinician education, accessibility of testing, integration into electronic health records, and health economic justification. Closing this gap is critical to maximizing drug efficacy, minimizing adverse drug reactions, and improving overall patient outcomes across diverse populations and therapeutic areas.

The primary goal of this Research Topic is to bridge the translational divide in PGx by showcasing concrete evidence of its clinical implementation and utility. We aim to address the problem of clinical adoption by collating robust, real-world evidence that demonstrates the impact of PGx on therapeutic decision-making and patient health. We seek to achieve this by publishing high-quality original research that validates PGx associations, alongside detailed case studies that provide a blueprint for integrating genetic data into patient care. This collection will serve as a critical resource for clinicians, researchers, and policymakers, illustrating the practical value and feasibility of making personalized medicine a standard of care.

This topic welcomes submissions that explore the clinical application and validation of pharmacogenetics. Specific themes include:

o Novel gene-drug interactions
o Identification of new PGx biomarkers
o Emerging factors contributing to adverse drug events
o Innovative approaches to enhancing drug efficacy
o Clinical validation studies
o PGx-guided therapy and clinical management
