Cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation represent multidisciplinary efforts to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease through targeted interventions across the continuum of care. Advances in health sciences and rehabilitation have enabled the optimization of cardiovascular health in individuals at risk, those with established disease, and those recovering from cardiovascular events. From physical activity, exercise training, behavioural counselling, and pharmacological support to pragmatic community-based interventions and innovative technologies, modern cardiovascular programs increasingly integrate prevention and rehabilitation strategies tailored to diverse populations and health system realities. Despite their proven effectiveness, access, participation, and adherence remain challenging in many settings and populations, particularly in underserved and resource-limited contexts, emphasising the need for flexible, culturally adapted, equity-informed and evidence-based approaches that extend beyond traditional models.
This Research Topic aims to address the pressing need for comprehensive and scalable strategies targeting both cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation. The growing prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors (e.g., hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and sedentary lifestyle) demands multidisciplinary, culturally sensitive, and real-world approaches that can be effectively implemented across clinical, community, and population levels. By promoting dialogue between clinical researchers, practitioners, community-based actors, and health systems, we seek to identify best practices, novel interventions, implementation strategies, and integrated care models that promote cardiovascular health, reduce morbidity, and improve patient outcomes. Contributors are encouraged to explore the effectiveness, feasibility, implementation, equity, and cost-effectiveness of interventions in diverse settings. This includes the application of digital technologies, emerging therapies, community delivery models, and health system-based programs. By advancing knowledge in cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation, this Research Topic aims to provide a comprehensive overview of current research in this field and to promote both patient-centered and system-level solutions.
We welcome original research, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, scoping reviews, case studies, and brief reports focusing on interventions for cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation.
Key topics include:
- Exercise protocols - Hybrid and digital models - Behavioral interventions - Multidisciplinary care - Risk factor management - Strategies to improve participation/adherence - Clinical, psychological, social, and economic outcomes
We especially encourage:
- Pragmatic and community-based interventions - Studies in low-resource settings
Additional areas:
- Novel techniques - Implementation science - Cost-effectiveness - Health system interventions - Personalised approaches
Manuscripts may address primary prevention, secondary prevention, or rehabilitation in a variety of settings, from hospitals to communities to home-based programs.
