Food-related disorders in childhood represent a growing public health concern, encompassing a broad spectrum of conditions such as food allergies, food intolerances, and other immune-mediated reactions triggered by dietary antigens. Once considered primarily as isolated gastrointestinal or allergic phenomena, these disorders are now recognized for their systemic impact and potential associations with other chronic conditions. Emerging evidence indicates that food-related diseases can influence nutritional status, immune regulation, and psychosocial well-being, often complicating diagnosis and long-term management. Despite advances in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, there remains a need for greater clarity on effective screening strategies, optimal multidisciplinary care, and integrated health systems capable of addressing the complex needs of affected children.
This Research Topic aims to expand the current knowledge base surrounding the screening, diagnosis, and holistic management of children with food-related disorders. The main objectives are to analyze current and emerging screening strategies, evaluate comprehensive management options, from elimination diets to novel immunotherapies, and assess the effectiveness of integrated care models, including telemedicine to promote patient-centered care.
This Research Topic will focus on the intersection of food-related diseases and pediatric comorbidities, with emphasis on translational and clinical research aimed at optimizing early detection and comprehensive management. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
• Strategies for early and differential diagnosis of food-related disorders in children • Studies about genetic, immunologic, and diagnostic biomarkers • Best practices in multidisciplinary management and long-term follow-up • Patient outcomes, treatment adherence, and health-related quality of life
We invite original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, clinical case reports, and perspectives relevant to these themes.
