The rapid development of the digital economy poses new challenges to talent cultivation in higher education. Traditional, single-track education models are unable to meet the complex and ever-changing talent needs, necessitating an urgent need to explore models for the coordinated development of vocational and entrepreneurial education. This study constructs a theoretical framework: "dual educational investment →dual capacity building →digital economy adaptability" to reveal the underlying mechanisms of the coordinated development of these two educational models and their impact on students' digital economy adaptability. Using a large-sample questionnaire survey of university students in eastern and central China, structural equation modeling was employed to validate the research hypotheses. The study found that both vocational and entrepreneurial education have a significant positive impact on students' employability and entrepreneurship abilities, with significant synergistic effects between the two, and the interaction between the two creates an additional value-added effect on employability and entrepreneurship abilities. Employability and entrepreneurship abilities play a significant mediating role between educational investment and digital economy adaptability. This study validates the theoretical hypothesis of coordinated educational development, provides a scientific basis for educational reform and innovation in talent cultivation models in the digital economy era, and has important guiding significance for promoting the deep integration of vocational and entrepreneurial education.
