Infectious Diseases provides an attractive publication platform for high-quality research addressing human infectious diseases. This specialty is interested in the broad spectrum of interactions between microbes and the human host, from dysbiotic conditions to “classical” and newly-emerging infections caused by disease-causing microorganisms and parasites. Thus, manuscripts that enhance our molecular understanding of the dynamic interplay between pathogenic microorganisms and the human host at the cellular and molecular levels are the focus of this section. Molecular approaches that exploit cellular, molecular, regulatory, biochemical and proteomic approaches to decipher aspects of microbial or parasitic virulence and host immune responses, including studies in suitable mammalian models are welcome. Manuscripts containing genome-wide datasets (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) on host-pathogen interactions will require functional validation of key results in cellular or whole animal models to justify in-depth evaluation by external experts.
The Infectious Diseases section does not publish the article type Case Reports and studies falling in the categories below are outside the scope of this specialty and therefore will not be considered for review:
Indexed in: PubMed, PubMed Central, Scopus, Google Scholar, DOAJ, CrossRef, Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), Science Citation Index Expanded
PMCID: all published articles receive a PMCID
Infectious Diseases welcomes submissions of the following article types: Correction, Editorial, Hypothesis and Theory, Methods, Mini Review, Opinion, Original Research, Perspective, Review, Specialty Grand Challenge and Technology and Code.
All manuscripts must be submitted directly to the section Infectious Diseases, where they are peer-reviewed by the Associate and Review Editors of the specialty section.
