Background

The oral structures are well known to be affected by a wide variety of systemic conditions ranging from endocrine to gastrointestinal to hematologic conditions, among many more. Such oral manifestation might represent very early signs of a systemic disorder or otherwise complications associated with the progression of the systemic disorder. Systemic medications are also well recognized to represent triggers for oral manifestations in the form of mucosal lesions, jaw bone changes and sensory abnormalities.

Along with the introduction and approval of many novel medications and treatment modalities for systemic disorders, the frequency of oral manifestations is thought to increase while the nature of such manifestations is likely to become more complicated. Early identification and management of the oral manifestations of systemic disorders is of paramount importance to maintain the health and wellbeing of individuals.

This Research Topic will present contributions highlighting updates on the oral manifestations of systemic disorders and will be of great value for all dental practitioners.
