Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a complex metabolic disease characterised by several pathophysiologic alterations. These include insulin resistance and a progressive decrease in insulin secretion, ultimately leading to increased blood glucose levels. The healthcare system offers four broad types of services: health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and rehabilitation. As part of this, community and clinical pharmacy services in type 2 diabetes care, in the context of the post-COVID-19 era, must be explored.
Community and clinical pharmacy services are a core area of type 2 diabetes care, and pharmacists play an important role in screening high-risk patients, assessing patient health status, educating patients about awareness of the disease and rationalising the treatment plan to achieve effective outcomes. This research topic aims to explore the current community and clinical pharmacy services in diabetic healthcare across different countries, particularly in relation to quality of life, availability of diabetic interventions, and the relationship between socioeconomic status and health. The collection is patient-centric with the aim of reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes across the world.
Specific themes of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Clinical pharmacy services for type 2 diabetes across different countries · Community pharmacy services for type 2 diabetes across different countries · Diabetes economics in relation to pharmacy services · Implementing protocols in diabetes pharmacy services · Quality of life and patient compliance in relation to type 2 diabetes pharmacy services · The role of pharmacy services in the prevention of type 2 diabetes complications
