Background

The field of dermatological research is increasingly focusing on the impacts of heightened global UV radiation, primarily attributed to stratospheric ozone depletion from human activities. This escalated exposure not only precipitates acute skin reactions like sunburn and tanning but also instigates chronic conditions including photoaging and skin cancer. Absorption of UV radiation by the skin leads to a spectrum of damage, from direct DNA impairment to indirect effects such as oxidative stress and compromised antioxidant defenses.

This Research Topic aims to collate cutting-edge research on novel methodologies for either preventing or addressing skin damage stemming from excessive UV radiation. These innovative approaches encompass the identification of new bioactive compounds, pinpointing therapeutic targets specifically for photodamage, and pioneering the creation of groundbreaking skincare products.
