Background

The International Conference for Young Marine Researchers ICYMARE is a bottom-up-driven networking initiative. ICYMARE conducts an annual conference and networking event to foster international exchange among marine early career researchers. The early careers organize and conduct the whole event but also identify the conference topics and prepare and moderate their topical sessions.

This Research Topic aims to build off the success of ICYMARE - Early Career Researchers in Marine Science Vol, I by continuing to feature articles authored by early career researchers who were involved in the ICYMARE 2025 conference. As emerging experts in their respective fields of marine science, they are invited to contribute articles within the topical frame of their ICYMARE conference session. Thus, articles on this Research Topic may come from all fields of marine sciences, as they relate to the session themes in ICYMARE 2025, including but not limited to:

• The Ocean’s Role in Climate Mitigation and Biogeochemical Cycles

• Sustainable Ocean Use and Conservation Strategies

• Marine Organisms and Ecosystem Responses to Environmental and Anthropogenic Change

• Human-Ocean Interactions: Governance, Policy, and Societal Engagement

Early career marine researchers may submit manuscripts to this Research Topic upon invitation by the editors and are required to limit the theme of their article to their research field represented at the ICYMARE conferences. This research topic welcomes all article types.
