Armed conflict, persecution, and forced displacement expose millions of individuals to traumatic experiences that have long-term psychological consequences. Refugees, in particular, face compounded risks due to pre-migration trauma (e.g., war, torture, loss), migration stressors (e.g., dangerous journeys), and post-migration challenges (e.g., uncertainty, poverty, discrimination). Despite global attention to refugee crises and the challenges faced by internally displaced people, access to culturally relevant and effective mental health care remains limited, especially for those in low-resource settings or protracted displacement.
This Research Topic aims to gather cutting-edge contributions on war-related trauma and psychological interventions for refugee populations and internally displaced people, across age groups, with a particular focus on adolescents, families, and community systems.
We welcome original research, systematic reviews, case studies, and theoretical contributions addressing (but not limited to) the following themes:
• efficacy and adaptation of trauma-focused interventions • longitudinal impacts of war trauma on development and identity • trauma-informed, non-clinical, and community-based responses to trauma • integration of cultural beliefs, spirituality, and resilience into care models • experiences of frontline practitioners, NGO workers, and refugee counsellors • policy and ethical implications of trauma research and interventions in displaced settings.
