Background

Gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, such as infections, inflammation, and congenital malformations, can have wide-ranging adverse impacts in children including their growth and development. Various strategies have been developed to improve GI health, with specific examples being tedaglutide (for short bowel syndrome), fecal microbiota transplantation, and modified enteral nutrition support. However, additional novel strategies or combined applications are still urgently needed to enable further improvements in the gastrointestinal health of children.

Goal

Contributions on new developments in GI health are welcome from pediatricians worldwide. This Research Topic aims to explore strategies to improve and enhance children's gastrointestinal health, with a particular focus on innovative strategies with regards to their potential applications. It seeks to highlight basic sciences and experimental work to investigate novel targets or factors that are relevant to various specific GI conditions.

Scope and Information for Authors

We welcome articles covering, but not limited to, the following topics:

● Innovative treatment for GI diseases, including inflammatory conditions, GI tumors and congenital malformations.
● Nutritional support during GI diseases.
● The influence of dietary patterns on the development of GI diseases.
● Novel therapeutic targets for various inflammatory conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease, neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis, and Hirschsprung associated enterocolitis.
