Specialty Chief Editor Professor Leonid Dombrovsky of the 'Heat Transfer Mechanisms and Applications' section of Frontiers in Thermal Engineering and Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering, along with Associate Editor Boxiang Wang are launching a Research Topic to highlight current challenges across the field of Heat Transfer Mechanisms and Applications.

The Specialty Chief Editor would like to invite critical contributions, whether theoretical, conceptual, or empirical that can provide new insights and stimulate a constructive debate around the following, not exhaustive, list of topics in heat transfer:

● Combustion and fire safety
● Aerospace Engineering
● Heat transfer in solar engineering
● Near-field radiative heat transfer
● Modeling of photothermal therapy
● Radiative cooling and advanced coatings
● Advanced thermal insulations
● Inverse problems in combined heat transfer

A brief discussion of some of these topics and relevant references can be found in this Specialty Grand Challenge article.

The Research Topic invites contributions from the Editorial Board members of the 'Heat 'Transfer Mechanisms and Applications' section. Editors Challenge Article types include Brief Research Report, Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspectives.

To acknowledge your efforts and commitment to shaping this discussion, the Specialty Chief Editor will select and award the best article submitted to this collection.

Keywords: Heat Transfer, Radiative Cooling, Radiative Heating, Combined Heat Transfer, Solar Engineering, Combustion and Fire Safety

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
