About this Research Topic

Background

Marine peptides have garnered significant attention in recent years due to their diverse medicinal properties, including antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immune-regulating activities. These peptides, derived from marine organisms, have been extensively studied for their potential health benefits. For instance, peptides from the sea crab (Charybdis natator) have demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects, while sea bream hydrolyzed polypeptides have shown promise in regulating blood glucose levels. Additionally, marine-derived peptides have been identified for their blood pressure-lowering capabilities. Despite these advancements, there remains a notable gap in understanding the role of marine peptides in bone immunomodulation and the prevention and treatment of bone-related diseases. Current research has yet to fully elucidate the correlation between the structure of marine polypeptides and their bone activity, as well as the precise mechanisms and target cells involved in these processes.

This research topic aims to investigate the structure and function of marine active peptides in the context of bone immunomodulation and bone joint health. The primary objectives include screening and analyzing marine peptides for their potential in bone-related applications and exploring their molecular mechanisms. Key questions to be addressed include identifying the specific structures of marine peptides that contribute to bone health and understanding the pathways through which these peptides exert their effects.

To gather further insights into the role of marine peptides in bone health, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Extraction and purification of active polypeptides from marine organisms, with a focus on structural analysis.
- Demonstration of the effects of marine-derived peptides on bone immune regulation and joint health, supported by both in vitro and animal studies.
- Elucidation of the mechanisms of action of active peptides on bone immunomodulation and joint health.
- Comparative studies on the efficacy of different marine peptides in bone-related applications.
- Exploration of potential therapeutic applications of marine peptides in bone diseases.
