Background

Earth Observation refers to the scientific activity of systematically monitoring and observing the Earth's surface and its atmosphere from a distance using various sensors and remote sensing technologies. These technologies include satellite remote sensing, aerial photography, ground observation stations, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote sensing. The purpose of Earth Observation is to collect data on the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of the Earth to better understand the changes and dynamics of the Earth system, as well as the impact of these changes on human society and the environment. Despite significant advancements, there remain critical gaps in our understanding of the Earth's systems, particularly in the context of global challenges such as environmental degradation, energy concerns, and natural disasters. Recent studies have demonstrated the potential of Earth Observation technologies to provide comprehensive data that can inform policy and decision-making. However, there is a need for further research to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and applicability of these technologies in various domains.

This research topic aims to advance the field of Earth Observation by fostering the exchange of cutting-edge theoretical research, technological innovations, and practical applications. The main objectives include addressing specific questions related to the improvement of Earth Observation technologies, testing hypotheses about the integration of artificial intelligence in remote sensing, and exploring new methodologies for data collection and analysis. By focusing on these goals, the research seeks to contribute to a more profound understanding of the Earth's systems and the development of more effective strategies for environmental protection, resource management, and disaster response.

To gather further insights in the field of Earth Observation, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Earth perception theory and technology
- Collaborative fusion technology
- Ecological and environmental protection
- Disaster identification and prediction
- Mineral resource monitoring
- Hydrological surveys
- Soil and water conservation and sustainable development
- Land resource management
- The application of artificial intelligence in Earth observation
