About this Research Topic

Background

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and Patient-Reported Outcomes (PRO) are critical components in the evaluation of healthcare interventions. HTA provides a systematic approach to assessing the value of medical technologies, drugs, and health policies, ensuring cost-effectiveness and improved patient outcomes. Meanwhile, PRO studies capture patients’ perspectives on health status, quality of life, and treatment preferences, offering valuable insights for evidence-based healthcare decision-making. This Research Topic aims to explore the latest advancements in HTA and PRO and their role in shaping public health policies, clinical practices, and health economics.

We will focus on studies examining HTA and PRO applications worldwide, particularly in health economics and outcomes research. It will provide a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, engaging researchers, policymakers, healthcare providers, and industry professionals. The key objectives are:

To evaluate the role of HTA in shaping reimbursement and healthcare policy decisions.

To analyze the impact of PRO measures on clinical decision-making and patient care.

To explore cost-effectiveness studies and budget impact analyses in various healthcare settings.

To assess the real-world implementation of HTA and PRO research across different countries.

To examine global case studies on HTA and PRO adoption in decision-making processes.

This Research Topic encourages submissions covering, but not limited to, the following areas:

1) HTA and economic evaluations: Cost-effectiveness analysis, budget impact studies, and value-based pricing.

2) PRO studies and applications: Real-world studies evaluating the impact of patient-reported outcomes on healthcare decision-making, treatment preferences/effectiveness, and patient-centric care.

3) HTA in emerging technologies: Evaluation of digital health tools, AI-driven diagnostics, and precision medicine.

4) Global perspectives on HTA implementation: Case studies from different healthcare systems.
