The world population is exponentially growing. This means the need to increase agricultural goods to feed the population. However, the available land for agriculture is limited. To meet the high demand, farmers have been using chemical fertilizers to increase yield. This however had an undoubtable negative impact on the ecosystem. In this context, sustainable agriculture is the need of the hour as we need to find environmentally friendly methods to meet the increasing demand. Sustainable agriculture is the use of biological sources to produce food and fibres, among other products, while considering the environmental impacts. It stands on four pillars: land management, resource management, human interface, and ecosystem interface. Agricultural sustainability suggests a focus on both genotype improvements through the full range of modern biological approaches and improved understanding of the benefits of ecological and agronomic management, manipulation and redesign. Sustainable agriculture outcomes can be positive for food productivity, reduced pesticide use and carbon balances. Significant challenges, however, remain to develop national and international policies to support the wider emergence of more sustainable forms of agricultural production across both industrialized and developing countries. Creating awareness on the benefits of sustainable agricultural practices in increasing yield from small land areas, reducing water consumption, and conserving soil is important to increase acceptance to these farming techniques and ecological resilience. This Research Topic aims to explore innovative and sustainable solutions in agriculture and renewable energy, addressing environmental, economic, and social challenges. Moreover, approaches that address multiple objectives including resilience and increasing productivity, alongside addressing sustainability are welcome. The collection will feature research that enhances sustainable food production, resource conservation, and the integration of renewable energy into agricultural systems. We invite student contributions that provide scientific insights, case studies, and technological advancements in these fields.
