Background

Youth mental health is a critical area of public health that impacts long-term societal well-being and productivity. As young individuals navigate the complex transitions from childhood to adulthood, they face unique challenges that can affect their mental health, including social pressures, educational stress, family dynamics, and increased exposure to digital media. Given these challenges, there is a pressing need to understand and address the specific mental health needs of this demographic to foster a healthier, more resilient generation.

This Research Topic aims to explore and synthesise the latest research in youth mental health within the public health context. We seek to identify effective strategies for mental health promotion, prevention of mental disorders, and improved care delivery that are tailored to the needs of young people. This involves examining the role of social, economic, and environmental factors in shaping mental health outcomes and developing interventions that can mitigate risk factors while enhancing protective factors.

To gather further insights into critical areas of need and effective intervention, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- Assessment of risk and protective factors for mental health in youth
- Impact of social inequalities and adversity on youth mental health
- Strategies for reducing stigma and discrimination associated with mental health issues
- Innovations in mental health services tailored for young populations
- The role of policy in shaping access and quality of mental health services for youth
- Prevention and intervention strategies for substance abuse and violence in young communities

Contributions should emphasise their implications for public mental health and their potential to inform health policies, promote social inclusion, and reduce inequalities. By bridging research with practical and policy-oriented solutions, this Research Topic seeks to contribute significantly to the field of public mental health and the well-being of young individuals globally.
