Background

This Research Topic aims to gather and showcase evidence-based wellbeing strategies that directly support student and teacher mental health within educational settings. The focus is on practical, implementable approaches (both systemic and individual-level) that are grounded in empirical research and tailored to diverse educational contexts.

We welcome contributions that critically examine and evaluate interventions designed to enhance mental health and emotional wellbeing through structured strategies. These may include, but are not limited to: teacher wellbeing programs, whole-school mental health frameworks, resilience-building initiatives, institutional mental health services, burnout prevention models, and digital wellbeing tools. Submissions must go beyond theoretical discussion and present clearly defined strategies or models supported by data or robust conceptual frameworks.

Emphasis will be placed on:
• Interventions specifically targeting teacher wellbeing and professional mental health, and their implications for classroom engagement and educational outcomes.
• Student-focused wellbeing strategies that are distinct from general SEL programs, particularly those rooted in school-wide policies or institutional infrastructures.
• Comparative studies across countries or institutions, providing insights into culturally sensitive, scalable practices.

Submissions may include:
• Original research articles evaluating the efficacy or implementation of specific wellbeing strategies.
• Systematic reviews or meta-analyses that synthesize evidence on successful wellbeing approaches in schools and higher education.
• Case studies detailing innovative institutional or national-level strategies.
• Theoretical or conceptual papers that propose actionable wellbeing frameworks based on psychological or pedagogical theory.

We particularly encourage studies that:
• Explore cross-cultural or global perspectives on wellbeing implementation.
• Demonstrate impact on educational equity, teacher retention, or student engagement.
• Incorporate the voices of educators or students in the design or assessment of wellbeing strategies.

Specific Themes of Interest:
• Whole-school and institutional wellbeing frameworks

• Resilience-building and stress-management interventions for students
• Scalable digital or technological tools supporting wellbeing
