Polyoxometalates represent a venerable and greatly explored area of early transition metal chemistry, which has undergone an exponential growth over the last few decades due to the vast range of properties and applications that this diverse family of inorganic materials presents. However, the controlled assembly of gigantic molecules is still a great challenge since the reliable assembly of new clusters is not only important for exploring the fundamentals of structure and bonding, but also to extend the range of new materials and properties. In particular, there have been reports on the synthesis mechanism of polyoxometalate compounds. This Research Topic focuses on novel structures of large POM clusters, which may provide insights into inorganic chemistry.
The aim of the current Research Topic is to explore promising recent advances in the synthesis, structure, and characterization of any type of novel polyoxometalate compounds and assemblies. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Development of inorganic synthesis of polyoxometalate chemistry;
• The experimental and theoretical studies shedding light on the synthetic mechanisms;
• The novel POM clusters (e.g mono-, bi- and polynuclear metal-oxo clusters, metal-organic frameworks, etc.);
• Advanced synthetic strategies and characterization techniques.
Submissions of related original research articles, reviews, and mini-reviews that discuss future polyoxometalate architectures are also welcome.
