Background

With the gradual reduction of the earth’s shallow mineral resources, the mining of deep mineral resources has become an inevitable trend. Engineering disasters such as large deformation of soft rock, heat harm, rock burst, and gas outburst caused by the increasing mining depth have brought great challenges to mining and seriously threatened the safety of mine production. Since the traditional mining theory lags behind the mining engineering practice, it is urgent to develop new theories and methods of deep rock mechanics to solve the theoretical and technical problems of deep mining.

This Research Topic accepts the submission of manuscripts covering different topics, from pure and fundamental research to more applied demonstrations and integrated case studies. More specifically, we suggest the following topics:
• Innovative experimental equipment and methods for engineering rock mass
• Measurement of in-situ stress and research on the mechanical behavior of rock mass
• Coupling analysis method and theory of the multiphase and multifield rock mass
• Disaster mechanism of deep engineering and its control countermeasures
• Theory and technology of safe and green mining of deep resources
We mainly seek contributions covering the above topics but will consider works with more general scopes where the related innovation theory and technology have an important role.
