Cardiometabolic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome, represent a growing global health burden, affecting millions worldwide and contributing to substantial morbidity and mortality. These conditions share common pathophysiological mechanisms involving insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and dyslipidemia. Nutrition plays a pivotal role in both the prevention and management of cardiometabolic diseases, yet optimal dietary strategies remain a subject of ongoing investigation.
Recent advances in nutritional science have revealed complex interactions between dietary patterns, specific nutrients, gut microbiota, and cardiometabolic health outcomes. Evidence from randomized controlled trials and large-scale observational studies has highlighted the benefits of Mediterranean diet, DASH diet, and low-carbohydrate approaches in reducing cardiometabolic risk. However, significant knowledge gaps persist regarding personalized nutrition strategies, the role of emerging bioactive compounds, perioperative nutritional optimization, and the long-term sustainability of dietary interventions across diverse populations. Furthermore, the translation of nutritional evidence into clinical practice and public health policy remains challenging, necessitating rigorous synthesis of current evidence and identification of future research priorities.
This Research Topic aims to advance the understanding of nutritional strategies for preventing and managing cardiometabolic diseases by synthesizing cutting-edge research on dietary interventions, underlying mechanisms, and clinical applications. We seek to bridge the gap between basic nutritional science and clinical practice by presenting high-quality original research, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses that examine the efficacy of various dietary approaches, identify novel nutritional biomarkers, and explore the mechanistic pathways linking nutrition to cardiometabolic health. Additionally, this collection will address practical implementation challenges, including perioperative nutritional optimization, patient adherence, cost-effectiveness, and scalability of nutritional interventions across different healthcare settings and populations.
