Lipids and Brain Health

The progressive aging of the world's population constitutes a mounting threat to public health, primarily driven by the rising prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases. Nowadays, a growing body of evidence intricately links dysregulated lipid metabolism to a spectrum of neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, depression, and multiple sclerosis. Despite their critical importance, the immense diversity of lipid species and their complex metabolic networks mean our understanding of their precise mechanisms in brain health and disease remains largely incomplete.

This Research Topic aims to collate cutting-edge research to deepen our insights into the multifaceted roles of lipids in brain physiology and pathology, ultimately paving the way for novel lipid-based diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

To gather further insights into the physiology and pathology mechanism of endogenous/exogenous lipids in the development of neurodegenerative disease. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

● Lipid Metabolism in Neurodegeneration: The remodeling of endogenous lipids and its role in neurodegenerative disease pathogenesis.

● Dietary Lipids and Neurodegeneration: The effectiveness of natural lipid compounds/artificial lipid supplements 's in enhancing neurogenesis and synaptogenesis.

● Role of Gut Microbiota: How dietary lipids influence brain function and behavior via the gut-brain axis; the modulation of neurohealth by microbial metabolites like short-chain fatty acids.

● Advanced Technologies and Methodologies: Application of lipidomics, imaging mass spectrometry, and other novel techniques to decipher the brain lipid landscape; discovery and validation of novel lipid biomarkers.
