Living in prison: perceptions, experiences, and impact in Colombian ex-prisoners

Background: Prison as a mechanism of formal crime control leads inmates who integrate it to face what the process of prisionalization implies for social reintegration. Aim:To analyze the perception, experiences and impact of prisionalization in Colombian exprisoners. Design: Qualitative research with descriptive-interpretative scope and multiple case design, in which a semi-structured interview and projective techniques were used to collect information with six ex-prisoners selected at convenience. Results: Experiences, perceptions and positive and negative impacts, and relationships between them were found; as well as information associated with the knowledge of exprisoners about the deprivation of liberty and the process of prisionalization Conclusions: Experiences, perceptions and negative impact prevail in the ex-prisoners, which could be considered in the pretensions about the social reintegration of the inmate population.
