Media students' intention to accept and use intelligent technology requires not only the promotion of the external environment but also the stimulation and cultivation of students' internal driving forces. This study introduces mindfulness into the classical Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to explore: (1) the impact of mindfulness on media students' perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) technology; (2) the influence of mindfulness on the intention of media students to continuously use AI technology; and (3) the moderating effect of perceived risk on the intention to use AI tools. Based on the constructed model of the relationship between mindfulness and technology adoption, this study utilized an offline questionnaire survey (sample size = 588) among media students. Apply SmartPLS and SPSS software to examine the structural equation modeling and the moderating effect. The results of the survey revealed that: (1) mindfulness has a significant, direct, and positive impact on personal innovativeness (PI), perceived usefulness (PU), and perceived ease of use (PEU); (2) PI serves as an intermediary variable in the effect of mindfulness on the AI-based behavioral intention (AIBI); and (3) perceived risk (PR) significantly negatively impacts the relationship between PI, PU and AIBI. The findings suggest that mindfulness improves the intention of media students to use AI tools in the learning process, as individuals with higher levels of mindfulness are more likely to perceive the usefulness and ease of use of these tools. Personal innovativeness, which, in turn, enhance their intention to use AI tools; (3) students' perceived risk negatively affects the relationship between perceived usefulness, personal innovation, and intention to use AI tools. Drawing from the individual psychological trait of mindfulness, this study provides new insights into expanding the acceptance model of AI technology and offers valuable inspiration for the development of intelligent media talent cultivation systems. The effective promotion of media students' rational acceptance and innovative application of AI technology can be more successfully achieved by embedding mindfulness and reducing perceived risks.
