Background

Design and construction of fluorescent probes is an attractive and typical topic in chemical biology. In particular, small-molecule fluorescent probes realize practical application on the basis of the rational chemical preparation and optimization. With innovative design in chemical structures and reaction mechanisms, the fluorescent probes may successfully serve the medicinal processes including the optical imaging, therapeutical assistance, and so on. In the recent decades, a variety of small-molecule fluorescent probes have been reported for the monitoring of molecular indicators which are associated with specific medicinal procedures. With the investigated advantages including high sensitivity, high selectivity, and good biocompatibility, the development of small-molecule fluorescent probes in medicinal processes remains a hotspot in chemical biology.

This Research Topic plans to showcase the most recent advances on the topic of small-molecule fluorescent compounds in medicinal processes. It mainly aims at providing selected contributions on advances in the construction of small-molecule fluorescent compounds with rational chemical preparation and optimization. The chemical structures and reaction mechanisms should be cogent, while the potential monitoring object should be the molecular indicators in the medicinal processes. With the optimized chemical features studied, this issue intends to exhibit the applicable optical imaging performance in medicinal models. The findings in this issue may help the discovery of practical probes for the necessity of precision medicine and comprehensive therapeutical assistance.
