About this Research Topic

Submission deadlines

  1. Manuscript Submission Deadline 20 February 2026

  2. This Research Topic is currently accepting articles.

Background

Fossil fuels continue to serve as the primary source of energy for society. There is an urgent need for renewable energy and novel energy conversion technologies that could ensure a safe and sustainable future for humanity after the crude storage has been removed. The field of energy is most likely to be significantly influenced by materials that possess novel structures and functions. Significant advancements in materials can provide renewable energy resources and sustainable development, which can significantly contribute to the development of new cost-effective methods for energy collection from various sources.

This Research Topic highlights the rapidly evolving applications of nanoarchitectured materials in the domain of clean energy, covering technologies such as batteries, solar cells, fuel cells, nanogenerators, hydrogen production, and supercapacitors. Special emphasis is placed on advanced synthesis techniques—such as microwave-assisted hydrothermal, solvothermal, and related methods—that enable the precise design of these materials. Of particular interest are two-dimensional (2D) materials like graphene and MXenes, especially when integrated into porous, three-dimensional (3D) architectures. The primary aim of this topic is to showcase impactful and innovative research that resonates with a broad audience, including academic researchers, materials scientists, environmental experts, and industry professionals working toward sustainable energy solutions.

We welcome the submission of original research articles, reviews, mini review and perspectives on theme including but not limited to:

• Advanced Nanostructured Catalysts for Hydrogen Production via Water Splitting

• Design and Synthesis of Nanoarchitectured Materials for High-Performance Batteries

• Nanoengineered Materials for Next-Generation Supercapacitors

• Nanostructured Photovoltaic Materials for High-Efficiency Solar Cells

• Hybrid Nanomaterials for Dual-Function Energy Storage and Conversion

• Multifunctional Nanogenerators for Harvesting Mechanical and Thermal Energy

• Nanoarchitectured Electrodes for Solid-State and Flexible Energy Devices
