Background

In recent years, the integration of Artificial Intelligence into educational settings has accelerated with tools that adapt content, assess learning in real-time, and provide analytics-based feedback. While promising, the use of AI in education also raises complex questions about data ethics, inclusivity, educational sustainability and the role of human educators. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the field, a collaborative approach is essential to fully realize the potential of AI-enhanced learning.

The goal of this Research Topic is to explore how AI is reshaping education, identifying both its benefits and limitations. We aim to highlight innovative applications that enhance personalized learning, promote learner engagement, and support educators. At the same time, we seek to foster critical discussions about bias, data privacy, and equity in AI deployment. Through this collection, we hope to contribute to a responsible and effective integration of AI in education.

We invite original research articles, reviews, perspectives, and case studies. Contributions should focus on AI applications in K–12, higher education, and lifelong learning. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- AI-based adaptive learning systems
- Intelligent tutoring and virtual assistants
- Sustainability in education
