Background

The study of gender differences in nutritional knowledge and dietary behaviors is a burgeoning field that delves into the intersection of nutrition, gender studies, and public health. Current research highlights substantial gaps in understanding how gendered factors influence dietary knowledge and choices. While gender-based variations in nutrition have been widely acknowledged, detailed exploration of these differences remains limited, and this area has traditionally been overlooked in broader nutrition research. There is a growing recognition of the significant role gender plays in dietary habits and nutritional knowledge, driven by biological, socio-cultural, and environmental factors. Recent studies emphasize the complexity and variability of these differences across different regions and socioeconomic backgrounds. However, existing literature often lacks comprehensive approaches, missing out on intersectional and cross-cultural explorations, leaving various knowledge gaps unaddressed.

This Research Topic aims to investigate the gender-specific knowledge of nutrition and the resultant dietary behaviors, exploring the broad array of factors that contribute to these differences. By focusing on both theoretical and practical dimensions, the objective is to address significant questions. How do gender roles and societal norms shape nutritional knowledge and habits? What role do psychological and biological determinants play? How do global and regional contexts impact gender-differentiated nutritional outcomes? By answering these questions, this Research Topic aspires to foster a deeper understanding and uncover effective strategies tailored for different gender groups.

To gather further insights into the complex territory of gender differences in nutritional knowledge and dietary behaviors, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- Conceptualizing gender differences in nutritional research

- Cross-cultural and socioeconomic influences on dietary habits

- Biological and psychological determinants of nutritional knowledge

- Impact of social norms and stereotypes on nutritional behavior

- Innovations in gender-responsive nutrition education programs

- Implications of gender disparities in nutrition for policy and practice

We encourage contributions of various types, including original research, systematic reviews, case studies, and policy analyses, which will collectively advance our understanding and inform future public health strategies.
