Frontiers in Physics is delighted to present “Reviews in Optics and Photonics: 2026”.
This Research Topic will feature authoritative Review, Mini Review and Perspective articles covering major advances across optics and photonics, clarifying the state of the art and defining the most promising directions for future research and innovation.
We welcome contributions spanning fundamental theory, experimental breakthroughs, and advanced modeling and simulation, with a strong emphasis on work that deepens our understanding of light-matter interaction and enables new optical and photonic capabilities.
We encourage Review, Mini Review and Perspective submissions that cover established and emerging areas such as:
• Integrated and silicon photonics, hybrid integration, and novel photonic architectures
• Quantum optics and quantum photonics, including sources, detection, and enabling platforms
• Nonlinear, ultrafast, and strong-field photonics, including solitons and frequency conversion
• Metamaterials, plasmonics, and topological photonics
• Advanced photonic materials and fabrication for new device physics and performance regimes
• Computational imaging and imaging systems, including coherence-driven and wave-optics methods
• Sensing, metrology, LIDAR, microscopy, OCT, and related measurement techniques where optics is central
• Links between optics and photonics and high-impact applications in energy, health, manufacturing, environment, security, and computing
This Research Topic aims to serve as a practical reference for researchers and innovators, and a catalyst for new collaborations and future Research Topics.
Important Note: This is an invitation-only Research Topic. If you would like to be considered as a potential contributor, please register your interest by contacting the Frontiers in Physics journal team at physics@frontiersin.org
