Frontiers announces new partnership agreement with FIIBAP

Spanish funding body Foundation for Biosanitary Research and Innovation in Primary Care (FIIBAP) has entered into a new partnership agreement with gold open access publisher Frontiers.    The agreement, which was finalized in December 2022, supports FIIBAP’s mission to promote research and innovation in the field of primary healthcare. Grantees supported by the Foundation will have their open access publishing charges covered under the terms of the partnership and will also benefit from engagement with global level experts as part of Frontiers’ collaborative review process.  Jaime Barrio Cortes, clinician and researcher at FIIBAP said: “we are very happy to enter into this agreement with Frontiers. We recognize the opportunities that it will open up for our grantees, as well enabling our foundation to align with Horizon requirements.”  This new partnership further cements the Spanish research community’s commitment to open access and builds on existing agreements between Frontiers and other recent partners in Spain, including Consortium of Catalan University Services (Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya, CSUC), University of León and the Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC).  Ronald Buitenhuis, head of institutional partnerships at Frontiers said: “we are delighted to welcome FIIBAP into this new partnership. Frontiers’ Volunteers: Thinking globally, acting locally

The growth mindset guiding Frontiers to support solutions for healthy lives on a healthy planet once again came to life through our annual volunteer efforts. At Frontiers, we believe each of us plays an important role in having a positive impact on society. That is why we are committed to contributing to communities in a meaningful and sustainable way. We encourage our people – affectionately referred to as Frontons – to participate in volunteering activities with charity partners. To make this possible, each Fronton receives three working days per year that they can dedicate to volunteer efforts.  Photo credit: Frontiers Every Fronton is empowered to volunteer, and our volunteering platform Alaya makes it particularly convenient to get involved. Alaya compiles available opportunities with vetted organizations into a digital catalog, allowing Frontons to filter these based on a variety of criteria, including cause, skills, and location, in order find the right match. The platform also gives Frontons a space to connect over these volunteering activities and encourages further participation, be it individual outputs or group initiatives. Over the past year, Frontons spent 662 hours, or the equivalent of 27.5 days, volunteering, donated 241 goods, and raised CHF 625 in monetary donations. Their […]

Frontiers partners with World Economic Forum

Frontiers has entered into a new partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF). The gold open access publisher will join the WEF as a platform partner, formalizing a longstanding collaborative relationship between the two organizations.  Photo credit: World Economic Forum As part of the new agreement, Frontiers will join the WEF’s Centre for New Society and Economy and will champion open science across the network. Supporting global initiatives in the field, Frontiers will work with its WEF partners to share and promote the evidence-based benefits of open science and to influence global thinking on its positive impact on society.    Kamila Markram, Frontiers’ chief executive officer said: ‘our track record of collaboration with the World Economic Forum is one that we have long valued and becoming a Platform Partner is a natural transition for us. Rachel Parker – They are the answer

Author: Carolina Capelo Garcia Rachel Parker is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). She has more than 20 years of experience in international education, including specific expertise in learning through play and global education. More specifically, Rachel has been leading, designing, evaluating, and managing education programs for development partners such as UNICEF, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Asian Development Bank, and the World Bank. Through ACER, Rachel leads Learning Through Play at School, a major four-year study on the benefits of playful pedagogies, as part of a joint project with the LEGO Foundation. She is also co-author of Frontiers in Education’s most viewed article of 2022, “Learning Through Play at School – A Framework for Policy and Practice” (Parker et al, 2022). Thirst for knowledge: Frontiers sponsors Pint of Science Switzerland festival

Open access publisher Frontiers is proud to sponsor Pint of Science Switzerland taking place 22-24 May 2023. The event is part of the larger global Pint of Science festival, which aims to make science more accessible by sharing recent scientific developments with the public in a casual atmosphere. A year of transformational science at the Frontiers Forum 2022

Our Frontiers Forum webinar series welcomed over 14,000 attendees this year, who joined visionary keynote speakers and panelists for discussions on science-led solutions for healthy lives on a healthy planet. The Frontiers Forum brings together researchers, policymakers, and other experts from around the world to explore the latest data and fresh perspectives for addressing the greatest challenges of our time. This year, the speakers and panelists included a Nobel prize winner as well as representatives from the World Health Organization, African Academy of Sciences, and leading conservation organizations. Subjects ranged from exciting developments in CRISPR gene-editing technologies to new approaches for protecting biodiversity and ecosystems, particularly in the face of climate change. 2022 in review: a message from our CEO

As CEO of Frontiers, and on behalf of my colleagues, it is my pleasure to share with you some of the insights gained and lessons learned from the events of 2022.    Thanks to science, the threat of COVID-19 to our day-to-day lives has waned.  The record-breaking development of effective vaccines and treatments for COVID-19 was accomplished by openly sharing scientific research articles through initiatives such as the CORD-19 Open Research dataset. Open science has proven what we can achieve if collaboration can flourish. It has shown that free, immediate, and unrestricted access to all publicly funded research for innovators, doctors, scientists, journalists, you, me, and people everywhere is absolutely critical if we are to find solutions to today’s most pressing global challenges at speed.  Earlier this year, new policy guidance from the United States White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) stated that the results of taxpayer-supported research should be made immediately available to the American public, without restriction. It is a moment that encapsulates the lessons of COVID-19 and represents the progress we are now making. Pathology and Oncology Research: a successful transition to open access

Frontiers’ Partner Focus Frontiers publishing partnerships was first established in 2019 and in 2020 one of the earliest society journals to join our community of partners was Pathology and Oncology Research, the journal of the Arányi Lajos Foundation for modern pathology. Previously publishing under a hybrid-subscription model with Springer Nature, the transition to gold open access marked a major step forward for POR and the beginning of an important new relationship for Frontiers. Two years on, we’ve been looking back on POR’s transition and talking to its editors-in-chief about their experience of moving to Frontiers and the journal’s progress and achievements since then. 2022: A year to remember

Author: Leticia Nani Silva As a young scientist, I ask myself daily, “What do you want to be remembered for?” Is it my career, my publications, my awards, or even all the conferences I attended? As a female scientist, I want to be remembered for making significant contributions to my field of work and for amplifying the voices of other female scientists to share their stories. As scientists ourselves, we felt it was our responsibility to create a space where women researchers would feel drawn to share their career progressions and achievements, as well as the obstacles and challenges they faced. We wanted to give them a platform where they would be remembered not only for their scientific breakthroughs, but even more so for their tenacity, passion, and dedication to uplifting the other women around them. Frontiers Publishing Partnerships 2022: the year in review

Frontiers Publishing Partnerships is ending 2022 with much to celebrate and we are looking forward to an exciting year of growth and development in 2023.   Our partnerships team has been working with an expanding community of societies and institutions from across the world, including several landmark journals which launched with us in 2022. One of these is Aerospace Research Communications, the official journal of Zhejiang University Press (ZJUP), which publishes cutting-edge research in the field of aerospace science and engineering. As our first collaboration in China, the partnership has marked a major milestone for Frontiers and provides a strong foundation for the growth of our publishing partnerships program with key institutions in the country.   This year has also seen the launch of the European Journal of Cultural Management and Policy (EJCMP), the journal of the European Network on Cultural Management and Policy. EJCMP is the first society journal in the humanities field to transition to Frontiers under the gold open access model and the partnership marks a significant step for both partners.  In the biomedical sciences, we transitioned the British Journal of Biomedical Sciences (BJBS) from a hybrid model to full open access.
