About this Research Topic

Background

The integration of sports and medicine has emerged as a promising solution to the global crisis of physical inactivity and its adverse health consequences. Current reliance on pharmacological and traditional medical interventions alone is insufficient to tackle the rising burden of chronic diseases. Consequently, there is a heightened demand for lifestyle modifications, particularly through exercise, to curb this epidemic. Countries worldwide are beginning to recognize this necessity, with some integrating exercise referral systems within healthcare frameworks to support chronic disease management. The symbiotic relationship between sports science and medical fields offers an innovative approach that encompasses exercise, nutrition, health promotion, and rehabilitation. While each area independently contributes to health, their convergence is anticipated to enhance disease prevention, management, and overall well-being.

This Research Topic aims to explore the multifaceted relationship between sports, medicine, and health, focusing on how this integration can revolutionize health interventions. The main goal is to investigate the efficacy of exercise as a complementary non-pharmacological treatment for chronic conditions, mental health disorders, and aging-related concerns. Additionally, the utilization of digital tools to personalize and optimize exercise regimens based on individual health needs will be assessed. Through this initiative, we seek to foster interdisciplinary collaborations that align sports interventions with medical insights to maximize health outcomes.

To gather further insights within the realm of sports and medicine integration, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

o Exercise as a treatment for chronic disease management

o The impact of physical activity on mental health and stress response

o Benefits of exercise across the aging process

o Role of digital and smart technologies in tailored health interventions

o Implementing exercise interventions for special populations, including children and those with chronic or mental health conditions

Keywords: Exercise, Physical Activity, Mental Health, Cognitive Function, Sleep, Stress, Chronic Disease, Health Promotion
