The History, Culture and Sociology of Sports seeks to provide an outlet for new and interesting studies on the history, culture and sociology of sport and physical activity. We are particularly interested in original work that bridges the disciplinary boundaries between the humanities, social sciences and sport sciences in its focus upon sport, physical activity and embodiment. Our objective is to publish ground-breaking and innovative work in social and cultural theory on the history and sociology of sport and physical culture. We seek collections that are timely and innovative as well as studies interesting to both the research and practitioner community. The History, Culture and Sociology of Sports welcomes submissions of the following article types: Brief Research Report, Core Concept, Correction, General Commentary, Mini Review, New Discovery, Opinion, Original Research, Perspective, Review and Specialty Grand Challenge.
All manuscripts must be submitted directly to the section The History, Culture and Sociology of Sports, where they are peer-reviewed by the Associate and Review Editors of the specialty section.
Articles published in the section The History, Culture and Sociology of Sports will benefit from the Frontiers impact and tiering system after online publication. Authors of published original research with the highest impact, as judged democratically by the readers, will be invited by the Chief Editor to write a Frontiers Focused Review - a tier-climbing article. This is referred to as "democratic tiering". The author selection is based on article impact analytics of original research published in all Frontiers specialty journals and sections. Focused Reviews are centered on the original discovery, place it into a broader context, and aim to address the wider community across all of Sports and Active Living.
