About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is closed for submissions.

Background

Physical activity plays a crucial role in metabolic health, significantly impacting conditions such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. These metabolic diseases have become prevalent global health concerns, with increasing incidence due to sedentary lifestyles and poor dietary choices. Recent advances in exercise science accentuate the therapeutic potential of various training modalities - endurance, resistance, and combined approaches - in mitigating risk factors associated with these diseases. Researchers have explored the complex mechanisms by which exercise enhances metabolic pathways, but there remains a need to identify the most effective exercise interventions tailored for disease prevention and management.

This Research Topic aims to explore the optimization of different exercise interventions for the prevention and management of metabolic diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes. By investigating the efficacy of endurance, resistance, and combined training approaches, this topic seeks to shed light on specific questions, such as which exercise regimens maximize health benefits in different population groups and what underlying physiological mechanisms are at play. The overarching objective is to provide evidence-based guidelines that inform public health strategies and individual exercise programs.

To gather further insights into the range and limitations of exercise interventions in metabolic disease prevention, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

o Comparative effectiveness of endurance, resistance, and combined training on metabolic health
o Molecular mechanisms by which exercise influences glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity
o Personalized exercise prescriptions for individuals at risk of metabolic disorders
o Long-term benefits of structured exercise programs on obesity and diabetes management
o Role of physical activity in conjunction with dietary interventions for optimal metabolic health

We encourage research articles, reviews, and perspectives that contribute to a comprehensive understanding of exercise's pivotal role in preventing and managing metabolic diseases.
