About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is closed for submissions.

Background

Functionalized polymeric nanomaterials are like key elements to the advancement of various applications to revolutionize new functional materials in technology. Recently, the development of functionalized polymeric materials for multi applications has drawn much attention among researchers. In order to attain exceptional structural, electrical, mechanical, thermal, optical, catalytic, and electrochemical properties, conventional polymers have to be functionalized with various functional moieties. Design of novel functional polymers such as conductive polymers, separation polymer membranes, metal/covalent organic framework (MOF/COF) polymers, functionalized polymers grafted onto a support/matrix, polymer micelles for drug delivery, polymer gels, luminescent polymers, biomedical polymers, shape-memory polymers (SMPs), photovoltaic polymers, stimuli-responsive polymers, and supramolecular polymers (SPs) are of great interest owing to its distinct interfacial properties and significant applications to various fields.

This Research Topic will focus on the highlights of new research areas on the topics of different synthetic methodologies and characterization of emerging functional polymeric materials, which are explored for various applications in catalysis, photocatalysis, bio-medical, electronic/bio-devices, bio-medical, sensors, fuel cells, environmental remediation, membrane separation, tissue /bone-engineering, and drug-delivery vehicles. We welcome original research, review, and perspective articles that focus on (but are not limited to) the following research themes/topics:
• New polymerization technologies/morphology-specific functional polymers;
• Fabrication of novel functional polymers for multi-application like catalytic, electrocatalytic, and bio-medical applications;
• Functionalized polymeric materials with supported matrices/frameworks;
• Functional polymers for membrane separation, environmental remediation, and energy storage;
• Design of functional polymers for electronic and photovoltaic devices.

Keywords: Functional polymers, Catalysis/photocatalysis, Bio-medical, Membrane technology, Energy storage
