Background

In celebration of the most impactful areas of research in electrochemistry, we are proud to present this feature Hot Topic* collection to highlight some of the recent advances in electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER).

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has been one of the most important reactions investigated in electrochemistry due to the fundamental and industrial importance of the electrolysis of water. In the last decades, OER has attracted considerable attention because of its critical role in various energy storage and conversation systems such as fuel cells, metal-air batteries and photoelectrochemical water splitting. The search for the most efficient electrocatalysts is still undergoing, and various materials/compounds have been recently tested to improve the OER efficiency.

This Research Topic aims to cover recent advances in various aspects of electrocatalysts
for oxygen evolution reaction, including (but not limited to):
• Design and synthesis of novel electrocatalysts for OER
• Experimental and theoretical investigations of the mechanism of OER
• Recent OER developments in fuel cells, metal-air batteries and water splitting
