It is therefore crucial to develop advanced techniques for measuring food quality and safety attributes throughout the production and supply chain. Packaging plays a vital role during postharvest handling in delivering graded products of consistent quality to the marketplace, preserving product quality for extended periods, and reducing food loss.
The quality assessment of agricultural products involves the analysis of the internal chemical components and external phenotypic traits of agricultural products, while packaging needs to analyze the physical properties of fresh agricultural products, including stress resistance, cell structure, etc. This information and characteristics are closely related to the planting environment, genes, genetics, and other factors of agricultural products. The relevant research results can promote the development of plant biology and product physiology. Non-destructive detection and packaging further enhance automation and intelligence in these areas.
Therefore, this Research Topic aims to provide up-to-date information on the developments and applications of advanced, non-destructive sensing and intelligent packaging technologies for agricultural products, with relevant areas including but not limited to:
