Background

This Research Topic is the third volume of the Research Topic 'Advances in Sports Science: Latest Findings and New Scientific Proposals'. Please see the first volume here, and second volume here

In sports, precise measurement is crucial. Over the past 30 years, scientific exploration of physical activity and sports has grown consistently. Enhancing athlete performance through evidence-based strategies is essential.

Various sports and disciplines leverage empirical evidence to improve competition performance. This includes sports training, where individuals and groups adopt innovative methodologies and interventions. Despite extensive knowledge, more in-depth research is necessary. Established areas like sports physiology, behavior analysis, performance analysis, sports psychology, innovative methodologies, the latest training proposals, and new statistical techniques must continue to evolve.

Certain areas lack comprehensive scientific literature, such as children and youth sports, and other under-researched contexts, all requiring more study to solidify sports science.

The goals of this research topic are:

To advance sports science from multiple perspectives, encompassing sports physiology, technical and tactical behavior analysis, game systems, competition and performance analysis, sports psychology, sports rehabilitation, methodology, statistical analysis, coaching, and sports training analysis.

To foster research in areas lacking substantial scientific literature, such as children and youth sports (focusing on new training proposals and performance analysis), and psychological variables related to training and performance.

We invite contributions that explore, but are not limited to, the following themes:

• Innovations in psychological training methodologies and athlete rehabilitation
• Advanced research on mental skills development and application in sports
• Comprehensive studies on psychological aspects of youth sports training
• New proposals for expanding sports psychology into less explored areas
• Innovations in training methodologies and sports rehabilitation
• Advanced statistical analyses for sports applications
• Proposals for expanding sports science into less explored areas

By welcoming a diverse array of scientific inquiries—including original research, clinical trials, and systematic reviews—this topic strives to foster a more holistic and nuanced understanding of sports psychology within modern athletic performance.
