Frontiers announces membership of STM 

Gold open access publisher Frontiers has announced that it has become a member of the International Association of Scientific, Technical, and Medical Publishers, better known as STM.   Credit: Frontiers Frontiers has been involved in various initiatives with STM over the years, and more actively last year as a member of the working group on research integrity. Frontiers has contributed to the group’s development of new paper mill detection tools, in collaboration with a number of other publishers  The move to full membership is a significant step in Frontiers’ ongoing relationship with STM. It will enable the publisher to make a more substantial contribution to the association’s work, including efforts to identify potentially fabricated or manipulated research, and academic publishing policies.  Stephan Kuster, head of public affairs at Frontiers, who will be the publisher’s main representative to STM said: “this new membership is a natural progression of the work we have already been doing with STM and we are looking forward to increasing our participation in a range of projects to support policy development in scholarly publishing.”  Fred Fenter, chief executive editor at Frontiers, said: “This is an important time for the development of academic publishing, and we look forward to […]

Working with societies – join us in conversation with Society Street

How can publishers best support societies in the increasingly complex landscape of scholarly publishing? Frontiers’ head of publishing partnerships, Robyn Mugridge, will join a panel of scholarly publishing experts from across the industry to discuss this, and other key questions, during an online conversation on publishing, societies, and open access on Tuesday 11 October.   Organized by Society Street, a forum for leaders and future leaders of scholarly societies, the online discussion will be the second in a two-part series for and about society publishers. The panel, which also includes representatives from Elsevier, MDPI and Wiley, will reflect on the direction of society publishing, the challenges facing societies, and the ways that societies and their publishing partners can respond to these together.  Frontiers’ head of publishing partnerships, Robyn Mugridge, said ‘As a representative of a fully gold open access publisher, I am pleased that Frontiers is able to contribute to this fantastic event, aimed at supporting societies. IBMS to transition leading biomedical journal to Gold Open Access

BJBS is the biomedical profession’s leading scientific journal; featuring peer-reviewed papers and reports on the latest scientific advances and laboratory techniques. The journal will transfer from the publisher Taylor & Francis to Frontiers from January 1, 2022, in coordination with the journal’s 20th anniversary of publication. For more than 100 years the IBMS has been dedicated to the promotion, development, and delivery of excellence in biomedical science within all aspects of healthcare, and to providing the highest standards of service to patients and the public. ESOT to transform major journal to Gold Open Access

Image: Flamingo Images/Shutterstock.com The European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) has announced the transition of Transplant International from Hybrid access to Gold Open Access in partnership with Frontiers. Transplant International is the premier journal publishing the key basic science and clinical developments in organ replacement medicine and will transfer from the publisher Wiley to Frontiers’ Open Science Platform from January 1, 2022. Frontiers will work closely with ESOT’s leadership committees and stakeholders to transition the journal, including its extensive archive of articles, which dates back to 1989. All articles will be immediately, permanently, and freely available to read, download and access for people everywhere. Authors will retain copyright and published articles will be compliant with Plan S.
