Background

Innovative diagnostic techniques play a crucial role in managing quarantine plant pests, which pose serious threats to global agriculture. Rapid and accurate detection of these pests is essential for implementing effective control measures and preventing large-scale crop damage. Advances in new solutions and early-detection methods have significantly enhanced our ability to decipher the mechanisms pests use to evade plant defenses and persist within their hosts. However, challenges remain in fully understanding the complexities of these interactions, particularly how pests manipulate plant immune responses and the ecological and evolutionary dynamics shaping these relationships.

This Research Topic aims to explore innovative diagnostic approaches that deepen our understanding of plant-pathogen interactions and improve management strategies for quarantine plant pests. By elucidating the mechanisms underlying pathogen attack and plant defense, these diagnostics can contribute to more targeted and sustainable pest control methods. Key areas of interest include pathogen detection mechanisms, immune evasion strategies, and the broader implications of these interactions on plant health and disease transmission.

We welcome original research and review articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

1. Development and validation of novel early-detection methods for pest detection and identification

2. Studies of pathogen-host interactions using innovative techniques

3. Mechanisms of pathogen immune evasion and plant immune response modulation

4. Ecological and evolutionary perspectives on plant-pathogen dynamics

5. The impact of diagnostic innovations on pest management and sustainable agriculture
