Background

As we move into the third decade of the 21st century, the field of Sports Politics, Policy, and Law continues to evolve rapidly. Recent years have seen remarkable contributions from researchers and professionals, driving significant progress and shaping the direction of sport and active living.

To showcase the most impactful research and foster ongoing dialogue, Frontiers is pleased to introduce a new Research Topic featuring contributions from members of our distinguished Editorial Boards and the broader academic community. This initiative—guided by Prof. Darnell, Specialty Chief Editor of the Sports Politics, Policy, and Law section, and Prof. Greenfield—seeks to explore innovative ideas, significant challenges, emerging trends, and transformative advances within the interconnected areas of sports politics, law, and policy.

We invite articles that assess the current landscape, highlight key breakthroughs, and chart pathways for future inquiry. Contributors are encouraged to discuss both accomplishments and remaining obstacles in their areas of expertise, and to propose solutions for critical issues facing the field.

This special collection seeks to inform, inspire, and guide researchers and practitioners by highlighting key milestones from the past decade and considering what lies ahead. Through this dual focus, it provides a comprehensive overview of the advancements made in sports politics, policy, and law, as well as the challenges the field continues to face.
