Frontiers welcomes new publishing partnership with the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine

Gold open access publisher Frontiers is pleased to announce that the journal Experimental Biology and Medicine (EBM), currently published by SAGE, will be transferring to Frontiers. The transition is thanks to a newly signed agreement with the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine (SEBM).  The partnership, finalized in October 2022, represents a major step forward for open access publishing in the field of experimental biology and medicine. Previously published under a hybrid model, EBM will open for submissions on Frontiers’ fully open access platform in late 2023. The first papers are expected to be published in early 2024. The partnership is an important addition to Frontiers’ growing community of society partners in North America, which also includes the Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, and the International Drug Abuse Research Society.  Commenting on the agreement, EBM’s Editor-in-Chief Dr. Steven Goodman said: ‘Moving EBM to a fully open access model is a significant step that will enable us to better support our global community of researchers. Reflections on the 2022 Charleston Conference

The Charleston Conference is a landmark event in the scholarly publishing calendar and provides a vibrant and unique meeting point for librarians and publishers from across the USA and the world. The Frontiers team was delighted to be able to attend the 2022 conference in early November. Alongside Julia Kostova, Director of Publishing Development, our delegates included Tom Ciavarella, Head of Public Affairs and Advocacy for North America, representatives from our institutional partnerships teams, and other colleagues from our US office. We were delighted to be a diamond sponsor of this important event, and to take part in several sessions and panels.   Frontiers hosted a panel on the much-discussed OSTP guidance on public access for federally funded research, bringing a US policy perspective to scholarly communications. Open access publisher Frontiers strengthens its global public affairs team

Research publisher Frontiers appoints Dr Anke Beck and Ms Nancy (Yinan) Chen as heads of public affairs and advocacy for Europe and China respectively. They have been appointed to lead advocacy initiatives in support of Frontiers’ mission to make all science open.  Europe and China are the unique hubs for research and high-potential innovations. The diverse nature of these research communities requires stronger links between academia and policy makers in line with regional or national smart specialization strategies. It also requires a deep understanding of the different stakeholders and their needs, as well as the willingness to engage and collaborate on all sides. Wendy Chapman – Successful digital health through diversity of thought

Author: Katharina Stock Professor Wendy Chapman is the Director of the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health at the University of Melbourne. The Centre focuses on the translation of digital health innovations into clinical practice, envisioning healthcare as a connected system. Philipps University Marburg has formed an institutional membership agreement for open access publishing with Frontiers. This institutional agreement means that eligible researchers of Philipps University Marburg may benefit from 10 % membership discount. Former Amazon HR leader Kanika Mehra joins Frontiers

Research publisher Frontiers appoints Kanika Suri Mehra as chief people officer (CPO). Kanika will be responsible for all aspects of the human resources strategy, including talent management, leadership development, and compensation and benefits. Kanika will be supporting the publisher in achieving its mission of making all science open, and embedding Frontiers’ culture and employee experience program across its 17 global offices.   Photo credit: Frontiers Kanika has more than eighteen years’ experience leading human resources for global organizations. She joins Frontiers from Amazon, where she led the Amazon Web Services (AWS) HR Partners, supporting the hypergrowth in 30+ countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for nearly twelve years. In addition, she chartered the Change Management project with Workday at Amazon and established a 500+ team for Amazon’s HR Shared Services in Prague supporting 28,000 EMEA employees. Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences signs publishing agreement with Frontiers

The Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (JPPS) will move to gold open access publisher Frontiers as part of an agreement signed by the Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences (CSPS).   The partnership was finalized in September 2022 and the journal will open for submissions with Frontiers in early 2023. The agreement will be Frontiers’ first partnership in Canada.  Commenting on the agreement, JPPS Editor in Chief Fakhreddin Jamali said: ‘Partnering with Frontiers will enable us to take our commitment to open access publishing to the next level. We look forward to collaborating with the team to further grow and develop JPPS and build a sustainable model for the journal’s future.’  Dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in pharmaceutical sciences, CSPS supports research, development, and training in the field. It provides regular workshops and an annual symposium for its members. Established in 1998, JPPS is the society’s official journal and a key part of its mission. New policy enables retrospective name changes for authors

Frontiers is pleased to announce a new policy to make it easier for authors to retrospectively change either their name, pronouns, or both. The policy has been created as part of Frontiers’ commitment to improving equity, diversity and inclusion in publishing and covers name changes made for any reason, including marital status, gender identity, or religion.  Authors will be able to request a change to their name and/or pronouns by completing a simple form available on the Frontiers website. Once processed the request will be actioned across all publications and on the Frontiers publishing platform. Authors will also be able to opt for this update to be made silently, meaning that it will not be necessary to publish a correction when the change is implemented.  Mirjam Eckert, Chief Publishing Officer at Frontiers said: ‘we are really delighted to be able to offer our authors a straightforward pathway to making retrospective name changes on publications and across our platform. Monica Montgomery – Policies for Peace

Author: Lucy Thompson Monica Montgomery is the Political Director for the non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization Council for a Livable World. The organization is dedicated to reducing the danger of nuclear weapons and eventually eliminating them through advocating sensible national security policies and helping elect congressional candidates who support them. Today, we discuss Monica’s journey into policymaking, the importance of representation, and the intersection of peace and policy within society.    Photo credit: Monica Montgomery What was your inspiration that led you to your current role?  I first became interested in nuclear arms control, non-proliferation, and disarmament work through my undergraduate studies at University of Notre Dame, where I had a professor who had extensively worked in Washington, DC on disarmament issues. He organized a trip to the Vatican for a conference that was hosted by Pope Francis himself on issues of nuclear disarmament. I attended this conference and I was really inspired by the message of the Pope. Aliyah Griffith – Mahogany Mermaids and Marine Marvels

Author: Thimedi Hetti I had a pleasure of speaking with Aliyah Griffith, PhD student at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, about her journey into marine science, setbacks, and achievements. With the research shift more towards coral reef management, Aliyah is hoping to partner with Barbados to explore the techniques while also partnering with the American Museum of Natural History in New York to review some of the pieces from their 4000-piece coral fossil collection. “I want to use the fossils to try and recreate what old reefs used to look like compared to newer ones,” Aliyah hopes. Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia forms open access publishing agreement with Frontiers

Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) has formed an institutional membership agreement for open access publishing with Frontiers.  This institutional agreement means that eligible IIT authors will benefit from a 10% membership discount when publishing in Frontiers journals. This may be combined with any other applicable discounts, waivers and similar support schemes personally obtained by the authors.  IIT supports its researchers in making their research more widely available. The new agreement with Frontiers will further encourage IIT researchers to publish open access, reducing costs and streamlining central invoicing process.    Information for IIT researchers   If you are an eligible IIT researcher, please select “Italian Institute of Technology (IIT)” in the payment information section (“Frontiers institutional members”) when submitting your article. Frontiers will verify your eligibility with the IIT Research Organization Directorate and, if confirmed, apply the discount on the article processing charges (APCs).
